Discover Purchena

The Juegos Moriscos de Abén Humeya were declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional de Andalucía. The Alcazaba of Purchena crowns the town.

Culture

The Torre del Agua is technically more accurately described as a Coracha tower. A spring is located inside this tower. It once supplied the fortress and the town districts with water.

The Museo Municipal de Arqueología Islámica preserves marble Maqabirillas. The collection also includes decorated vessels. Further finds come from the Alcazaba and the old town of Purchena.

The Iglesia de San Ginés was declared a historical-artistic monument in 1983. Its construction began in 1550 under the direction of the architect Juan de Orea. The church has a roof structure of the Armadura de par y nudillo type. This construction is decorated with stars and Alfardones.

Purchena therefore brings together various historical testimonies: the Alcazaba crowning the town, the Torre del Agua with its former function in the water supply, and the church with its documented construction history. The museum complements these structures with marble Maqabirillas, decorated vessels and finds from the Alcazaba and the old town.

Nature and Trails

The Via Verde del Almanzora runs through Purchena. The route is suitable for cycling. The Via Verde is also suitable for walking. This suitability applies to all users, including people with reduced mobility.

The Mirador de la Silveria is located at an altitude of 1,000 metres. Its location is on the shaded slope of the Sierra de Filabres. The viewpoint lies within the municipality of Purchena. From the Mirador de la Silveria, you can look out over the Almanzora Valley.

The Área Recreativa de La Silveria recreational area has several sections. These sections have tables and benches. The area also includes barbecue facilities.

The PR-A 368 Purchena-La Silveria hiking trail is 19.24 kilometres long. The route designation names Purchena and La Silveria as its two place names.

Various landscape features and route details are therefore documented for the trails around Purchena. The Via Verde runs through the town, the viewpoint lies within the municipality on the shaded slope of the Sierra de Filabres, and the PR-A 368 connects Purchena with La Silveria in its designation. The recreational area complements these trail stops with tables, benches and barbecue facilities.

Cuisine

Traditional dishes from Purchena include Olla de trigo. Gachas are also among the traditional foods. Migas de trigo are likewise on this list. Fritada de conejo or Fritada de cerdo round out the dishes mentioned.

On this occasion, an outdoor picnic takes place, particularly in the Gevas area. At the picnic, specially made Hornazos are among the foods tasted.
