Nuevo Portil: Lagoon, Coast and Active Pursuits

Nature

If you would like to spend time in nature beside a body of water that holds water year-round, Laguna del Portil is an 11-hectare freshwater lagoon. Mixed forests of coastal pines and juniper surround the lagoon. Those planning to observe nature will find a large population of waterbirds at Laguna del Portil. The path around Laguna del Portil passes through a typical coastal ecosystem characterised by pine trees with a Mediterranean understorey.

For a route with an almost circular course, the path begins at a viewpoint on the HV-4112 coastal road and leads into the pine forest around the lagoon. Along the paths described, there are three adapted, freestanding viewpoints that you can include as individual stops on this section of the route. This means that the lagoon path brings together water, forest, coastal vegetation and several viewpoints in one continuous natural area. The year-round lagoon forms the centre of the route described.

Paths

If you would like to combine a crossing of the dunes with a fixed walkway, the Caño de la Culata path crosses the dune front via a wooden walkway. As a botanical trail, Caño de la Culata describes twelve plant species. The route combines the crossing of the dune front with an explicitly botanical focus, without changing its course over the wooden walkway. The walkway and the botanical description therefore belong to the same named path, whose plant life is specified as comprising twelve species.

Coast and Water

For coastal walks, Nuevo Portil has a five-kilometre-long coastline and is surrounded by pine trees and junipers. From Nuevo Portil, you can enjoy views of the Río Piedras and Flecha del Rompido.

At the nautical facilities in Nuevo Portil, you can take boat trips to the unspoilt beach of Flecha del Rompido. The Asociación Náutica Deportiva Nuevo Portil organises sailing courses through its respective schools.

Active Pursuits

Nuevo Portil Golf covers 46 hectares, is 6,040 metres long and was designed by Alfonso Vidaor. These figures specify the course's area and length, while the designer's name identifies his authorship of the design.

For practice and lessons, Nuevo Portil Golf offers a practice area, a driving range, Pitch & Putt and a practice bunker. It also provides club and buggy hire, as well as a golf school.
