The chapel's former function remains apparent in its designation as a former chapel. The former and present uses stand side by side through the present-day Iglesia de San Pedro and the fact that most religious services take place there.
Three styles meet at the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción: Gothic, Mudéjar and Baroque elements. The material used from a former synagogue is also part of this church's architectural history.
The ten stained-glass windows of the Iglesia de San Pedro form a distinct part of the church interior. One of them is dedicated to Saint Eulalia, linking the site with the traditional RomerÃa and the pilgrimage to the Ermita.
The RomerÃa of 13 May 2018 is dated as a specific event. Its 49th edition did not end at the event venue, but with the pilgrimage to the Ermita de Santa Eulalia.
The Crucero also points to another historic route connection within the town through its link to the Ruta de la Plata.
Trails and landscape
The Sendero del Teuler is a circular trail starting and ending in Santa Olalla del Cala.
In 2022, the Sendero del Teuler (PR-A 473) was described as a trail for sports use located within the municipality of Santa Olalla del Cala (Huelva).
Its route follows a former mining railway line.
This route coincides with the GR-48 “Sierra Morena†long-distance trail.
The Sendero del Teuler leads to a viewpoint.
From there, the trail extends towards a large water-filled open-pit crater near the Minas de Teuler.
At the northeastern edge of the Parque Natural de Sierra Aracena y Picos de Aroche, the trail passes through a dehesa landscape.
This landscape is characterised by holm oaks, cork oaks, Portuguese oaks and olive trees.
The remains of the former mining railway station offer a view of the fortress of Santa Olalla del Cala.
The Ermita de La Asunción is also part of the same field of view.
As a circular trail, the Sendero del Teuler returns to its starting point in Santa Olalla del Cala. Its designation as PR-A 473 and its classification within the municipality of Santa Olalla del Cala (Huelva) refer to the trail for sports use named in 2022.
The former mining railway line shapes the route of the trail. Along this section, the path coincides with the GR-48 “Sierra Morena†long-distance trail, while the viewpoint directs the gaze towards the water-filled open-pit crater near the Minas de Teuler.
The landscape at the northeastern edge of the Parque Natural de Sierra Aracena y Picos de Aroche is explicitly described as a dehesa. Holm oaks, cork oaks, Portuguese oaks and olive trees define this part of the landscape.
