Valdezufre: White Village, Santa Marina and Dehesa

Valdezufre showcases a clearly recognizable rural side of Andalusia: the whitewashed village lies in a dehesa of holm oaks and cork oaks. Next to the village centre lies the area known as El Ejido.

Local History and Santa Marina

Valdezufre’s history dates back to the 15th century. The village was founded along the connecting route between Aracena and Seville, which has now become the N-433 national road. This historical connection makes the location between the two places an important part of the village’s history, without reducing Valdezufre to its transport links.

Valdezufre celebrates patron saint festivities in honour of Santa Marina. These include a pilgrimage to Santa Marina. The Ermita de Santa Marina is located about two kilometres from Valdezufre. It was built between the 14th and 15th centuries and has a main portal in the Gothic-Mudéjar style. The approximate distance of about two kilometres provides a specific reference point for planning the spatial aspects of a visit. The Gothic-Mudéjar main portal draws attention to a clearly defined architectural feature of the hermitage.

Hiking Connections with Different Local References

Valdezufre also offers specific points of interest for a trip focused on outdoor activity. The Sendero Jabuguillo-Valdezufre-La Umbría hiking trail runs between Jabuguillo, Valdezufre and La Umbría. The linear Sendero Aracena–Valdezufre hiking trail connects Aracena with Valdezufre. The two trails therefore establish different local connections: one links three places, while the other focuses on the relationship between Aracena and Valdezufre.
