La Fuente Grande brings together rural landscapes, waterside paths and regional traditions in a compact area. A prominent landmark is the Ermita Arroyo Granada, a small rural chapel in La Fuente Grande on the banks of the Arroyo Granada stream. It stands along a path leading towards Venta Valero. Hiking Routes through Mediterranean Landscapes

The Arroyo Granada route passes through traditional olive groves near the caseríos located close to La Fuente Grande. Elsewhere, the same route follows the left bank of the Caicena River to the settlement of La Fuente Grande. This provides different landscapes for planning a day out along a single route theme: olive groves near the caseríos and the riverside stretch to the settlement.

Another opportunity to observe the landscape is offered by Route 19 Priego. It begins at the boundary between the district of La Fuente Grande, which belongs to the municipality of Almedinilla, and the hamlet of Las Navas, which belongs to the municipality of Priego de Córdoba. Nearby, another route also passes through the Sierra de las Berrugillas and follows the Arroyo de Peñabermeja, amid Mediterranean woodland. These routes bring together different terms from the local geography: settlement, river, stream, mountain range and Mediterranean woodland.

Near La Fuente Grande, the El Salto del Caballo waterfall lies on the road leading to the settlement. Together with the Ermita Arroyo Granada and the paths along the Arroyo Granada, Caicena and Arroyo de Peñabermeja, it forms a sequence of specific landscape landmarks. Anyone mentally organizing a route or excursion can view these names as different levels for observing the surroundings, without combining them into a single route.

Olive Oil and Living Traditions

Olive farming is a visible part of everyday local life. La Fuente Grande has several oil mills where extra virgin olive oil is produced. Carefully selected olives from La Fuente Grande are taken to an oil mill for processing into olive oil. During the olive harvest, families and farmers work together to gather the fruit. Alongside the olive groves, the processing and the communal work surrounding the harvest thus represent the local connection between the landscape and food culture.

Every year on March 19, La Fuente Grande celebrates the festival in honor of Saint San José. Residents and visitors come together at the festival for prayer, music and dancing.
