La Antilla: Beach, Coastal Trails and Maritime Culture

La Antilla Beach is 3,500 metres long, has golden sand and moderate waves.

Coast

The beach has a small paved promenade lined with palm trees; wooden ramps extend to the middle of the beach.

Services at La Antilla Beach include the rental of sunshades, loungers and watercraft, as well as toilets, showers and foot showers.

There is also a tourist information office and a cleaning service.

Culture

The La Menina, de Madrid sculpture is inspired by Velázquez’s Las Meninas; in 2019, it was donated by the Ayuntamiento de Madrid.

The Museo al aire libre de La Antilla presents a tour through Spanish geography, featuring monuments, historical heritage and history.

In the Rincón de Córdoba, La Regaora stands on the sand with the sea in the background; it is a replica of the sculpture group of the same name from Córdoba.

El Socorrista de Biarritz I-I is an almost three-metre-high, realistic bronze figure of a young lifeguard.

The figure stands on the promenade of La Antilla.

The section of the Barandilla de San Sebastián on the La Antilla promenade is located on the Paseo Donostia San Sebastián.

In 2019, a 100-metre-long section of the iconic railings from Playa de La Concha was installed in La Antilla.

Fishing boats still lie on La Antilla Beach, surrounded by nets and fishing equipment.

The Barriada de los Pescadores in La Antilla is closely connected to the sea and preserves its traditional character and deeply rooted customs.

The Parroquia del Carmen is a relatively recent church building with three vaulted naves, dedicated to the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of sailors.

The cultural sites mentioned are spread across several areas of the town: they include the promenade, the Rincón de Córdoba, the Barriada de los Pescadores, the Paseo Donostia San Sebastián, the Parroquia del Carmen and the Museo al aire libre de La Antilla.

Traditions

During the celebration of the Virgen del Carmen in La Antilla’s Barriada de los Pescadores, the Virgin is taken out to sea in a boat after the morning Mass.

In the afternoon, the procession of the Virgen del Carmen follows the shore of La Antilla along the beach and then returns to its chapel.

Trails

The Sendero Azul is a cycle and walking path that stretches along the entire developed beach area of La Antilla and passes through public spaces and green areas.

The route is slightly more than three kilometres long in total and connects with the Marismas de Nueva Umbría natural area.

The Sendero Costa Occidental de Huelva, designated PR-A 131, passes through an urban section of La Antilla after leaving the Parque de los Cabezos.

The Ruta Parque de los Cabezos ends next to the roundabout in La Antilla.
