Torres: Nature, Culture and Mountain Views

A large part of the municipality of Torres lies within Sierra Mágina Natural Park. Native pines, holm oaks and cork oaks shape the landscape there. Aromatic plants are also part of its character. In Sierra Mágina Natural Park near Torres, visitors can go hiking, mountain biking, climbing, bouldering and free flying. Viewpoints offer expansive panoramas of the mountain landscape.

Nature and Trails

The Sendero Fuenmayor begins at the Fuenmayor recreational area. Access is via the path at the end of Paseo de San Isidoro from Torres. The recreational area lies about seven kilometres south of Torres, at the foot of the Almadén peak. It can be reached from the town via a paved road.

Fuenmayor lies in a densely wooded area along the Arroyo de los Fresnos de Fuenmayor stream. A spring, a pond and waterfalls are among the landscape features found there. The recreational area also has benches and picnic tables.

The Sendero Fuenmayor passes through holm oak stands and thorny shrubland. Its route includes reforested areas with Aleppo and black pines. The path also runs through olive, cherry and almond groves and past streams with riverside vegetation. Along the way, there are panoramic views of the peaks surrounding Torres.

The Sendero Fuenmayor crosses the Zurreón waterfall, one of the few waterfalls in the park. When Zurreón freezes in cold weather, the waterfall is particularly impressive.

Culture and Tradition

The surviving La Puente is a stone bridge with a single elevated semicircular arch. It was built in the 16th century and connected Torres with the Fuenmayor area and its mills. The construction was carried out by Andrés de Vandelvira.

Cueva del Morrón is a Palaeolithic rock sanctuary with red and black depictions of goats. The cave paintings are recognised as an asset of special cultural interest, designated as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC).

The Feria de los Jornaleros is a traditional festival in Torres. The fair has a distinctly religious origin. At the same time, it has a festive character.

Panoramic Views

The large tourist swing in Torres is located at an altitude of 960 metres and is 3.5 metres high. From the swing, you can look out over the town. The view includes traditional olive groves and the valley. The landscapes during the cherry blossom season and the Almadén and Cárceles peaks are also visible.
