Alozaina: Trails, Landscape and Culture

Nature

Alozaina lies within the sphere of influence of the Sierra de las Nieves National Park; at the same time, the town is part of the Sierra de las Nieves Biosphere Reserve.

The PR-A 273 Fuente Techa–Sierra Prieta route is a five-kilometre mountain hiking trail with a high level of difficulty; the stated walking time of three and a half hours applies only to the outward journey.

The local Alozaina–Alozaina cycling route is six kilometres long, takes around 45 minutes and has a low level of difficulty.

The El Charco de La Caldera route in the Jorox area leads to a natural waterfall approximately 22 metres high and a rock hollow containing mountain water.

The Ruta de Maria Sagredo runs entirely through the town centre of Alozaina and takes approximately 45 minutes.

History

Parque Mirador María Sagredo is located in a walled area that was reconstructed in the 1950s and is connected to the former fortress of Alozaina; from there, views extend across the Sierra Prieta and the Hoya de Málaga.

The present-day building of the Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Ana in Alozaina was almost entirely rebuilt between 1770 and 1774.
