Coast and trails

Benajarafe presents itself at Playa de Benajarafe with dark sand and moderate waves. The beach is divided into five named sections: Las Parras, Pataseca, Paseo Marítimo, El Cuartel and Los Laureles. Playa de Benajarafe has Braille signage for blind users. You can go windsurfing at Playa de Benajarafe.

The coastal path from Cala del Moral to practically the end of Benajarafe can be walked or cycled for around 14 kilometres. The completed section of the Senda Litoral has a promenade reserved exclusively for pedestrians throughout, improved beach access and signage along the entire route. From Benajarafe, you can explore the Ruta de la Pasa with its vineyards and drying sheds.

In Benajarafe, Zone H-01 is designated for five pedal boats from 1 June to 30 September.

History and architecture

Torre Moya, also known as Torre Gorda, is officially listed as a B.I.C. monument and was built in the 18th century. Historically, it warned coastal residents of approaching pirates: with smoke during the day and fire at night.

The marble high altar of Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Rosario contains a carved wooden Baroque-style chest with relics of San Faustino. Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Rosario was built in 1972 and is a work by the architect Andrés Escassi.

An archaeological settlement associated with Benajarafe shows settlement phases from Phoenician, Punic-Republican and Nasrid periods. The archaeological site of Arquería de Benajarafe (Y.20), also known as Cortijo Los Balcones, is accessible from Benajarafe.

Festivals and traditions

The celebration in honour of the Virgen del Carmen in Benajarafe takes place on 16 July. The Fiesta Noche de San Juan de Benajarafe is a musical festival welcoming the summer.

During the traditional pilgrimage, the route leads from the church to the Ermita in Benajarafe Alto. The Ermita in Benajarafe Alto is the centre of a popular pilgrimage held every year in October.

The Feria de Benajarafe in honour of Nuestra Señora del Carmen takes place from 16 to 19 July and includes a varied programme of activities, musical performances and community gatherings.

Chocolate from Benajarafe

Maychoco operates an artisanal bean-to-bar chocolate business in Benajarafe and produces chocolate from cocoa bean to bar. The Maychoco artisan workshop offers cocoa tastings where those interested can discover and sample different chocolate flavours.

Bus service

Bus route M-260 connects Málaga via Torre Benagalbón, Torre del Mar and Vélez-Málaga and serves Benajarafe. The timetable is valid from 30 April 2026 to 31 December 2030; travel between Vélez and Torre del Mar is prohibited.
