Playa El Morche: Beach, Promenade and Sand Court

At Playa El Morche, swimming, relaxation and activity come together along a varied stretch of coast. The beach has a basketball court on the sand and is suitable for fishing. Moderate waves are designated as the bathing conditions for swimming at Playa El Morche. Playa El Morche also has toilets, showers and foot-washing stations, as well as a beach promenade. The sand court, fishing opportunity and available facilities offer different focal points without reducing the beach to a single use. Those planning a day by the sea can consider these specific areas separately while still staying on the same playa.

GR-249 Route and Dunas de la Carraca

The local setting also includes the GR-249 route, which reaches the Paseo Marítimo de El Morche. The Dunas de la Carraca provide a different landscape accent: they are described as the last dunes of the Axarquía. This means that El Morche brings together a named destination on the promenade and a separately designated dune landscape. When planning stages, it helps to distinguish between the route’s course and the dunes’ distinctive landscape form. Both topics offer a different way of observing the coastal town: one through the route, the other through the character of the landscape.

Torre del Morche or Güi

A historic structure is the Torre del Morche or Güi. The tower stands on a headland 25 metres above sea level near the Barranco de Güi or Huit. It was built as a tower in 1575 and restored in the 1950s and 1960s. Its floor plan is circular, the structure is a truncated cone, and it is 10 metres high. As the Torre de Güi or Torre de Morche, the structure has been listed since 29 June 1985 as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Monument category. Its construction date, restoration period and form offer several specific ways to view the tower, from its historical origins to its preserved architectural features.

El Cenicero and the Coastal Fishermen

El Cenicero refers to the western end of Playa El Morche. The name derives from repair work carried out there by traditional coastal fishermen. In this way, the beach name is connected with a specific activity from the history of coastal fishing. El Cenicero is therefore a detail at the western end of the beach, while the promenade, sand court and Playa’s facilities highlight other facets of the same coastal area.

Fandangos de Güi: Dance, Song and Local Celebration

The Fandangos de Güi are a distinct dance and folklore tradition from the area of the Río Güi in El Morche. In El Morche, they are celebrated annually as a local event featuring singing and dancing. Their area of origin and form as an event belong together: the tradition is geographically associated with the Río Güi while also being celebrated as a recurring event in the town. For cultural orientation, the historic tower is thus complemented by a living expression of dance and song, without requiring the two subjects to be equated.

Torrevigía Coastal Route

The Torrevigía Route runs from Rincón de la Victoria to Maro and encompasses defensive architectural heritage along the coast. Compared with the individual tower in El Morche, it covers a considerably larger stretch of coastline. Torre del Morche or Güi represents a specific structure with its own form and history; Torrevigía places defensive architectural heritage within the context of an extensive route. These two scales can be considered separately when exploring the coast and complement each other as historical perspectives.
