Cañada De Rabadán: Mill Route, Chapel and Romería

Cañada del Rabadán developed along a livestock trail. At the beginning of the 19th century, the settlement emerged in connection with the process of enlightened colonisation initiated by Charles III.

Avenida de Andalucía crosses Cañada del Rabadán from one end to the other. It continues to El Villar and Écija. From Fuente Palmera, Cañada del Rabadán can be reached via the CP-246 road, 6 km away.

History

Inside the Capilla de Santiago Apóstol there is an altarpiece. The green-and-gold work is Baroque. It comes from the Capilla de San Zoilo de Córdoba and is dated to the beginning of the 18th century.

The façade of the Capilla de Santiago Apóstol bears an old wrought-iron cross from the Seminario Santa María de los Ángeles.

The main altar of the Capilla de Santiago Apóstol is made of light-coloured limestone. This stone comes from a former farmhouse owned by the Marqueses de Santaella.

Parque de la Constitución is located on Avenida de Andalucía. It is a few metres from the Capilla de Santiago Apóstol.

Culture

The second route of the Rutas de los Molinos connects mills between four places. These places include Cañada del Rabadán, El Villar, La Ventilla and Fuente Palmera. The route is approximately 17 km long.

The difficulty level of this second route is low. Along it, visitors encounter a rougher rural landscape with dry and irrigated crops.

This landscape includes continuous olive groves and old farm huts.

Molino El Puntal is located on the route through Cañada del Rabadán. It still has its mill beam and millstones.

Nature

Los Arroyones is located in the surrounding area. The natural area includes holm oak and pine woodland. The Arroyo de Los Picachos flows through Los Arroyones.

Los Arroyones is the site of El Villar’s annual Romería de San Isidro.

The area’s facilities include field kitchens and drinking water. Los Arroyones also has various facilities for human use.

Pilgrimage Tradition

In 2003, the idea arose of founding a brotherhood of Romeros from Cañada del Rabadán. It was intended to be affiliated with the Brotherhood of San Isidro de El Villar. The Romeros wanted to walk to the Los Arroyones area.

The Romeros’ first journey to the Los Arroyones area took place in May 2003. This first journey was attended by 32 families and a total of 70 Romeros.

The image of Saint Santiago Apóstol is carried in a procession at night.

For the Feria of Cañada del Rabadán, the dates from 22 to 25 July were set in 2022.
