Culture

Castillo de San Andrés is a fort built in the 16th century. It is considered the origin of Carboneras. The castle preserves two of its three original cylindrical towers. The complex also includes a larger square tower with three floors.

Following its restoration in 2013, Castillo de San Andrés is freely accessible to the public. Various temporary exhibitions take place there throughout the year.

The two surviving cylindrical towers and the larger square tower differ in shape; the square tower has three floors. This means that the original complex remains recognizable in several architectural elements.

Activities

The Carboneras–Algarrobico–Sopalmo route begins in the northern part of Carboneras. It runs along the northeastern boundary of Cabo de Gata-Níjar Nature Park.

The “Motos de Agua Cabo de Gata” water scooter experience begins in the harbor of Carboneras. It offers views of beaches and natural cliffs.

The two activities therefore have different starting points within Carboneras: the route begins in the northern part of the town, while the water scooter experience starts at the harbor. During the experience on the water, beaches and natural cliffs are among the explicitly mentioned views.
