Culture

If you would like to explore the centre of Lubrín, the Plaza del Porche leads there. Calle Sotomayor is characterised by rows of houses with balconies and floral decorations. Their design is considered typical of the province’s vernacular architecture and gives the street a clearly identifiable architectural feature.

The Plaza de Abajo is Lubrín’s central square. It can be reached via the so-called Escalericas de Marta. The former Teatro Sotomayor was later used as a cheese dairy. The old washhouse was supplied by the lower spring and was of great importance before the houses had running water. The history of the washhouse thus points to a time when the houses’ water supply was not yet provided by running water. Its connection to the lower spring forms part of this local history of water supply.

The Iglesia Ntra. Sra. del Rosario dates from the 19th century, around 1880. The church displays eclectic architecture. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross and comprises three naves. This architectural description connects the external style with the interior layout: the eclectic building is designed as a Latin cross and divided into three naves. The church was also among the early churches to use a material previously used mainly for industrial facilities and buildings.

Landscape

Lubrín forms part of the Sierra de Cabrera-Bédar Special Protection Area of the Natura 2000 network. The protected landscape exists alongside the mountain landscapes and traditional paths that surround the town and invite visitors to explore the surrounding area.

These routes provide an opportunity to learn about the municipality’s rural agriculture, goat farming and olive oil culture. Getting around

If you are planning a hike with a specified route length, the Sendero de Las Fuentes de Lubrín is a 7.9-kilometre circular trail. It includes a 2.3-kilometre branch, described as a separate route length. The stated length of the loop makes the trail a clearly defined hiking route; the branch is additionally listed with its own length.

The Sendero de Las Fuentes de Lubrín runs between Fuente Arriba and Fuente Abajo, passing former watermills, the Pozo de las Cabras washhouse and Lubrín’s recreational area. The route points therefore include former watermills, a named washhouse and Lubrín’s recreational area.
