Beach and Lagoon

Torreguadiaro showcases its coastal side at Playa de Torreguadiaro. The beach is approximately 1.5 kilometres long. Dark sand and calm water are among its defining features. For a visit, you can choose Torreguadiaro or Puerto Sotogrande as your starting point; the Playa can be reached from both places by car or on foot. Water sports equipment is rented out at Playa de Torreguadiaro. This connects the beach with the two named starting points and, at the same time, with an activity that takes place directly on the coast.

Laguna de Torreguadiaro is a two-hectare nature area between Puerto Sotogrande and the centre of Torreguadiaro. It was formerly an arm of the mouth of the Río Guadiaro. Over the course of the 20th century, it was separated by natural and artificial changes. Anyone wishing to explore the wetland on foot can use the several footbridges around the lagoon. The lagoon also has a visitor trail with footbridges, information boards and a birdwatching station. Walks in the wetland are among the activities available in this natural area. Thus, at the lagoon, its former connection to the river mouth, its later separation and its present design as an accessible natural area come together.

Seafront Promenade

You can take a walk outdoors along the Paseo Marítimo in Torreguadiaro. From there, you can see sunsets and the outline of the Rock of Gibraltar. There is a calisthenics park on the Paseo Marítimo. A health and exercise park and a children's park are also among the facilities located there. The Paseo Marítimo thus combines views of the coastal landscape with three differently named parks. Coastal History

The Torre quebrada de Guadiaro is also known as Torre caída de Guadiaro and Torre de Punta Mala. It is a listed BIC monument. Torre Nueva is a 16th-century coastal watchtower. It was built to replace the nearby Torre Caída or Torre Quebrada. The latter had been damaged by lightning. Torre Nueva was intended to serve as a refuge for shepherds, travellers and woodworkers from the area. The older tower's variety of names therefore remains just as much a part of the area's history as its listing as a BIC monument. In the case of Torre Nueva, the 16th century, the replacement structure and the preceding lightning damage are closely connected historically.

The present settlement of Torreguadiaro developed around a settlement of fishermen who came from the coast of Málaga and from the Campo de Gibraltar. This origin links the creation of the settlement with the two coastal areas from which the fishermen came to establish it.

Festival Culture

The Virgen del Carmen festival in Torreguadiaro includes a traditional Sardiná Popular. The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated on 16 July. Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the patron saint of sailors. The Spanish festival name Virgen del Carmen and the German designation Unserer Lieben Frau vom Berge Karmel refer to the same festival. 16 July is one of the explicitly named elements of this festival culture.
