The coast of the province of Cádiz is part of the Costa de la Luz; its beaches range from urban coastal stretches to extensive, almost untouched areas.

Part of Doñana National Park is located in the province of Cádiz. The interior of the province of Cádiz is connected by the Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos. The Acantilado del Tajo rises just over 100 metres above sea level.

The Sendero del Acantilado is a 7-kilometre hiking trail with a low level of difficulty and a stated duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. It connects Playa de la Hierbabuena beach with Los Caños de Meca and runs through the Parque Natural de la Breña y Marismas del Barbate.

The Vía Verde de la Sierra follows a 36-kilometre former railway line with 30 tunnels, four viaducts and five former railway stations. During a boat trip lasting just over two hours off the coasts of Cádiz and Morocco, visitors can observe, among others, striped dolphins, sperm whales, fin whales and orcas.

History and Culture

The archaeological section of the Museo de Cádiz presents the development of the province of Cádiz from prehistory through the Phoenician-Punic period of Gadir to the Roman cities of Gades and Baelo Claudia. The art history section of the Museo de Cádiz traces the development of painting from the 16th century to the present day.

Baelo Claudia is the most complete Roman urban centre on the Iberian Peninsula. Baelo Claudia was founded in the 2nd century BC on Bolonia Bay. The economic prosperity of Baelo Claudia was linked to fish processing and the production of garum.

Castillo de Sancti Petri is a fortification built on an island off the coasts of San Fernando and Chiclana de la Frontera that defended the entrance to Caño Sancti Petri in the Bay of Cádiz. Castillo de Sancti Petri can be visited for sunset at the Terraza de Poniente.

The Torre del Tajo is a watchtower built in the 16th century in the immediate vicinity of the Acantilado del Tajo.

Food and Festivals

The cuisine of the province of Cádiz is known, among other things, for “pescaíto frito” and seafood. Wine tourism in the Marco de Jerez includes visits to cathedral wineries, wine tastings and complementary gastronomic experiences. The Rutas del Vino y Brandy del Marco de Jerez were created in 2006.

At the Museo más Dulce, visitors can buy and taste a wide variety of products. The Carnaval de Cádiz is a festival of international tourist interest. The Feria del Caballo de Jerez de la Frontera is a festival of international tourist interest.

The Ruta Americana passes palaces, mansions belonging to trading houses, the former customs house of Cuba and the Philippines, lookout towers and monasteries. The Ruta del Toro in the province of Cádiz invites visitors to explore cattle-breeding farms, bullfighting museums and historic arenas.
