Coast

La Barrosa is a very wide beach, almost 8 km long, ideal for walks and equipped with showers, a beach promenade and lifeguards. Ramps and wooden walkways extending to the middle of the beach are available for people with disabilities.

La Barrosa is recommended for both experienced surfers and beginners. Kitesurfing is recommended at La Barrosa and next to the Castillo de Sancti Petri.

Nature

The 5.4 km walking and cycling path between San Fernando and Chiclana runs through the Bay of Cádiz Natural Park, beginning in San Fernando at the La-Vaera Bridge and ending at Chiclana’s fairground.

The path is part of the EuroVelo 8 cycling route. In the Chiclana section, it crosses the Caño Bartivás and the Río Iro via footbridges.

The Parque forestal Pinar del Hierro y La Espartosa offers paths through pine groves, outdoor fitness equipment and sports facilities. It also provides a habitat for the chameleon.

Access to the Marismas de Sancti Petri natural area is restricted.

Culture

Nueva Gadeira displays archaeological remains of an ancient Phoenician-Punic city. The site is still inhabited today, and numerous relics remain visible to this day.

Nueva Gadeira offers free guided tours of the visitor centre, the +20 platform and the Torre Mirador.

The Museo de Chiclana covers local history from prehistoric times to the present, including the city’s origins and the Napoleonic period. It is housed in the Casa de Briones and presents exhibitions, displays and collections related to local traditions.

The Iglesia de San Juan Bautista is an important neoclassical religious landmark in the province of Cádiz. It houses paintings attributed to the school of Zurbarán.

Semana Santa is one of the traditional celebrations in Chiclana.

Traditions

The Centro de Interpretación del Vino y la Sal includes the Colección Marín, an exhibition area about famous dolls and a tribute to their creator.

The visitor experience offered there covers salt extraction, the production of Flor de Sal and the wines of Chiclana.

Chiclana’s winegrowing tradition includes Finos, Olorosos, Moscateles, white wines, Creams, red wines, vermouth and Amontillados from the Marco de Jerez.

Other destinations include Villamartín, Zahara, Medina Sidonia, Algeciras, Los Barrios, Poblado Sancti Petri and Arcos De La Frontera.

Mobility

San Fernando-Bahía Sur is the nearest railway station to Chiclana. From there, a direct bus service runs to Chiclana; the city can also be reached by tram from the Río Arillo commuter train station.

Chiclana has urban and regional buses, taxis and a tram connection to San Fernando and Cádiz all year round—365 days a year.
