Dos Torres: Cultural Heritage and Routes through the Dehesa

The historic ensemble of Dos Torres is a protected cultural heritage area designated and delimited by the Junta de Andalucía under Decree 126/2003 of 6 May.

The Ermita de San Bartolomé dates from the 18th century, has a single nave, and features a small attached sacristy.

The Parroquia de la Asunción, which belonged to the former Torremilano, was built in the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries and has three naves with pointed arches.

The Iglesia de Santiago, the former parish church of Torrefranca, is a single-nave church dating from the 15th century; its wooden gabled roof is supported by slightly pointed brick arches.

The Centro de Interpretación de la Arquitectura Popular is housed in a traditional upper-middle-class residence dating from the final years of the 19th century or the first years of the 20th century. It presents the architectural heritage of Dos Torres and the traditional character of its historic buildings.

The Pozo de la Nieve is considered a possible early Christian basilica in the style of original Romanesque architecture; its interior is circular. Remains of a Roman road and mining activity from the same period have been found in its surroundings.

Plaza de la Villa is one of two squares located close to each other in the historic ensemble of Dos Torres; both are important for understanding the development of the urban fabric.

Regional context

Dos Torres is one of the seven municipalities on the Ruta de las Siete Villas through Los Pedroches.

Within the regional context of Los Pedroches, Dos Torres is included in Itinerary 3 of the Ruta miradores Starlight.

The Muestra de Cine Rural is an established cultural event in Dos Torres that takes place every year.

The Feria y Fiestas in honor of San Roque is celebrated in Dos Torres from 15 to 19 August. It includes carpets made by young people for the procession of the patron saint, as well as bullfighting events.

Nature

The Ruta de la Dehesa y la Ganadería de Dos Torres is an easy hiking trail. It interprets the Dehesa landscape and the livestock farming associated with it, and is 9.3 kilometers long.

The Ruta de la Arquitectura del Agua follows the Camino de San Alberto into the Dehesa; there, it passes through a wooded landscape with flowers, shrubs, and streams along the paths.

The route begins at the path known as Callejón de las Vacas and continues to the camino de Dos Torres a Santa Eufemia.
