Spa and Culture

The Casa del Médico houses the Centro de Interpretación del Balneario de Marmolejo, where visitors can learn about the spa's heyday. The centre contains an exact reconstruction of the former spa doctor's study and consulting room. This includes medical instruments from the late 19th century. The Casa del Médico and its gardens are designated as a historic site and Bien de Interés Cultural. This means that the history of the spa, as well as the historic designation of the building and its gardens, is documented in the same location.

A Renaissance bridge at the Balneario de Marmolejo was built over the Guadalquivir in the second half of the 16th century, between 1550 and 1587; construction began in 1550 and ended in 1587. The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Mayte Spínola has an eclectic collection of more than 250 works. The works reflect artistic trends from the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. Thus, the cultural heritage mentioned here ranges from a Renaissance structure to a collection of modern and contemporary art.

Landscape and Nature

The municipal Finca La Dehesilla is located in the northwest of the municipality of Marmolejo, covers 300 hectares and consists of typical Mediterranean woodland interspersed with areas of dehesa. The landscape of the finca is therefore characterised by the alternation of two clearly identified elements: Mediterranean woodland and areas of dehesa.

The Finca Municipal de La Dehesilla is used for camping, hiking, zip-lining and canoeing.

The Sierra de Marmolejo is part of a Starlight Reserve and is a Starlight Tourism Destination. The sierra offers opportunities for astronomical observation. The Yeguas Reservoir offers fishing opportunities. The fish species mentioned for the Yeguas Reservoir include largemouth bass, carp and boga. In addition to astronomical observation in the sierra, the reservoir is therefore also associated with fishing for three explicitly named fish species.

Geographical Setting

Castillo de la Aragonesa lies on the border between Jaén and Córdoba in the Vega del Guadalquivir, near a branch of the Roman road running along the river. Its building history includes a Muslim phase with a Berber fortification and a later Christian phase involving the construction of the keep. Its location on the provincial border and its two construction phases are among the key geographical and historical details associated with this site.

Paths and Viewpoints

The Cristóbal Relaño viewpoint can be reached from Marmolejo via the A-420 towards Córdoba and then via the JV-5001; the JV-5001 then continues for another 7 km to the viewpoint. The La Centenera hiking trail begins at the Cristóbal Relaño viewpoint. The trail's name is therefore directly linked to the aforementioned viewpoint, while the route is described via two designated roads and the final seven-kilometre section.

Fair and Festivities

Marmolejo's Feria y fiestas runs from the second Thursday in August until the following Sunday. Sporting, cultural, recreational, musical and traditional activities are held during the Feria y fiestas. The festival period mentioned therefore falls in August and encompasses a range of event categories, from sport and culture to music and tradition.
