Dune landscape with its own character

Sand, defensive architecture and golf give Artola a clearly defined profile. The Dunas de Artola are a natural monument covering an area of 19.27 hectares. The area of the natural monument provides its own spatial framework for planning the day. Next to the dunes stands Torre Ladrones; Cabopino Golf Marbella is located in Artola Alta. The Dunas de Artola comprise beach dunes with a certain degree of mobility, inactive mobile dunes and immobile fossil dunes. The vegetation includes, among other species, marram grass, sea holly, the fragrant sea daffodil and shrubs of the species Sabina caudada. This places different dune formations and a specifically named range of plant life side by side for nature observation. At the Dunas de Artola, 500 linear metres of a wooden boardwalk were completely renovated. At Artola/Cabopino Beach, supervised sea bathing with amphibious chairs is possible. For supervised bathing, the reservation and staff instructions should be planned for before the stay. The length of the renovated wooden boardwalk is stated as 500 linear metres and can be taken into account when scheduling time for a stay in the dune area.

At Artola/Cabopino Beach, handrails make it easier for people who need them to access the water without having to request bathing assistance. For supervised bathing, reservations and staff instructions are an immediate part of the preparation. Access via handrails is intended for people who do not need to request bathing assistance.

Torre Ladrones and the history of the coast

Torre Ladrones is a military defensive tower next to the Dunas de Artola and is designated as a cultural asset of special interest, Bien de Interés Cultural. Its square floor plan is combined with the shape of a truncated pyramid. The tower has three floors and a terrace. The fixed combination of floor plan, architectural form, floors and terrace defines the appearance of the defensive tower.

The former function of Torre Ladrones was focused on warning of enemy landings. Smoke signals were used for this during the day, and light signals at night. Different signals were therefore provided for the warning function during the day and at night. Together with its location next to the Dunas de Artola, this military history is one of Torre Ladrones’ defining features. Smoke signals and light signals were assigned to the two times of day.

Golf in Artola Alta

Cabopino Golf Marbella is an 18-hole golf course in Artola Alta. The golf course is 5,170 metres long and was designed by Juan Ligues Creus. The length of 5,170 metres refers to the golf course and can be taken into account when personally planning a round of golf.
