Cártama: History, Festivals and Hiking Trails
Admission to the Colección Museográfica de Cártama is free. The collection comprises 183 objects and presents the history of the town from prehistoric times to the Early Modern period.
The Colección Museográfica de Cártama also houses the largest collection of Iberian archaeology in the Province of Málaga.
Culture and History
The Ermita de Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios was built in the 16th century, at the latest in connection with the 1579 epidemic, and features an 18th-century Baroque camarín with richly decorated stucco work.
In the immediate vicinity of Cártama is the Castillo Árabe de Cártama, a castle.

Festivals and Events
In 2002, the Fiestas en Honor de la Virgen de Ntra. de los Remedios received the designation of a Festival of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia.
The Noches de la Bella Jarifa is an annual event in Cártama that recreates a medieval atmosphere at the end of September.
In the streets of Cártama Pueblo, the Noches de la Bella Jarifa offers a medieval programme with an Arab souk, falconry, oriental music and dancing, guided tours of archaeological sites, theatre and competitions.
The Festival Flamenco José Hurtado “Ramoliche” is dedicated to the singer José Hurtado “Ramoliche”, who was born in Cártama, and places particular emphasis on local artists and contemporary flamenco.
On 23 April, a solemn procession of the patron saint Nuestra Señora de los Remedios takes place through the streets of Cártama. On the first Sunday in May, a gathering of Verdiales groups takes place at the Ermita de las Tres Cruces.
Hiking and Cycling
The Jornada del Pedal, a cycling event held regularly for more than 20 years, takes place in Estación on the Sunday closest to 19 March and follows a cycling route through the streets of Estación de Cártama.
The Camino de las Tres Cruces is a 14-kilometre linear hiking trail that begins in the town of Cártama.
Torrealquería is an 8.8-kilometre circular hiking route around the valley formed by the Sierra de los Espartales and the Sierra Llana.
The Espartales Trail is an approximately 9-kilometre circular route of particular botanical and scenic interest.
The BTT route De Cártama a Almogía is 30.69 kilometres long, difficult and not circular.
