Guadalmina: Golf, Coast and History

The Real Club de Golf Guadalmina has two 18-hole golf courses.

Another course at the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina has nine par-3 holes. In addition, the club has a covered driving range designed for 40 players. The club's South Course opened in 1959.

The golf facility therefore combines several course formats: in addition to the two 18-hole courses, there is a dedicated nine-hole par-3 course. The covered driving range adds a practice area with a capacity of 40 players. The year 1959 marks the opening of the South Course.

Nature and Coast

The Guadalmina River is protected as a Special Area of Conservation under the designation ES6170021. At the mouth of the Guadalmina River, the protected area includes a small lagoon. This lagoon is used by waterbirds and waders for foraging. Among other things, the protected ecosystem of the Guadalmina River helps preserve a local otter population.

In the beach area at the river mouth, there is a publicly used bathing area within the protected area. Guadalmina Beach consists of several coves. San Pedro Alcántara Beach (Guadalmina) received the Blue Flag in 2026.

The protected area, lagoon and bathing area are located in the river-mouth area. The small lagoon is part of the protected area and is used by waterbirds and waders for foraging. The protected ecosystem also includes the preservation of a local otter population. Several coves follow one another along Guadalmina Beach; the Blue Flag is listed for San Pedro Alcántara Beach (Guadalmina) for 2026.

Culture and History

The Torre de las Bóvedas was built between 1571 and 1575. It formed part of the network of watchtowers along the coast. The Torre de las Bóvedas has a circular ground plan. Its structure is truncated-conical.

The Roman Baths of Las Bóvedas were built in the 2nd century AD. They are located in Marbella (Málaga). As an asset of cultural interest, they are designated as an archaeological zone. The baths have an octagonal layout. They are surrounded by seven radially arranged rooms. These rooms are also octagonal.

The Early Christian Basilica of Vega del Mar is located in the vicinity of Guadalmina. It is a complex consisting of a basilica with two apses and a necropolis. The basilica has a baptistery with several baptismal pools. In plan, one of the baptismal pools combines the Greek cross with the shape of a fish. This pool was designed for baptism by immersion. For group visits to the Early Christian Basilica of Vega del Mar in the vicinity of Guadalmina, opening hours on Saturdays and Sundays are from 11:15 to 13:00.

The historical remains reflect different architectural forms and periods. At the Torre de las Bóvedas, the circular ground plan and truncated-conical structure are combined with its former integration into the coastal network of watchtowers. The Roman Baths are characterised by their octagonal layout and seven radially arranged rooms. The basilica's baptistery preserves several baptismal pools, including one combining a Greek cross with a fish shape for baptism by immersion. Group visits are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays between 11:15 and 13:00.
