Estepona between Coast, Culture and Nature
In Estepona, the Senda Litoral opens up opportunities for walks or sporting activities along the coast by the sea. From there, views open up over beaches as well as sunrises and sunsets.
Coast
At 2,630 metres long, Playa de La Rada is one of Estepona’s precisely measured coastal stretches. The beach has toilets, accessible facilities, showers and parking. Playa de La Rada also has jetties, beach bars and water sports facilities.
The Bulevar is a landscaped avenue open to pedestrians and forms the transition between the town and the sea. Planted garden areas are part of it, as is a cycle path; the avenue also invites visitors to take a stroll.
The coastal areas differ in their described functions: the Senda Litoral follows the coast, Playa de La Rada brings together the specific beach facilities, while the Bulevar is designed as a landscaped connection between the town and the sea. As a result, walking paths, beach areas and an urban avenue stand side by side in the same location. The cultural sites also range from the historic old town to museums and a route through the pine forests of the Sierra Bermeja.
Nature
The Parque Botánico-Orquidario presents a subtropical forest. This presentation includes vertical gardens, a water-lily pond, a 15-metre-high waterfall and three glass domes. The park’s botanical collection comprises more than 1,500 orchid species. They are represented by more than 4,000 orchids on display.
Culture and History
The Ruta Horno de Brea de los Almárgenes ends at a restored tar kiln. It is connected with the former rural craft of the pe quero in the pine forests of the Sierra Bermeja. This craft disappeared in the 1960s.
The Ruta de Murales leads to artistic murals on building façades. The murals are located in various neighbourhoods and areas of Estepona, and the route can be explored on foot.
The Ruta de PoesÃas presents famous poems in several languages. The poems are displayed along the streets of Estepona’s historic old town.
The Museo Paleontológico displays original fossils from the geological periods represented in Andalusia. These include marine molluscs between five and three million years old from the basins of Málaga and Estepona.
The Museo Etnográfico displays more than 2,000 ethnographic objects. They cover the way of life, customs and economy of the population of the Estepona region in past centuries.
The Necrópolis Prehistórica de Corominas is a megalithic necropolis approximately 5,000 years old. It comprises five well-preserved tombs.

City Views
The Mirador del Carmen has an observation tower. From it, impressive panoramic views extend over the town of Estepona and the Mediterranean.
Museums
The Museo Taurino displays photographs of prominent bullfighters as well as historic scenes from the arena. The exhibits also include the heads of bulls killed in historic fights. Other items include identification marks from Spanish and Portuguese breeding establishments, posters and matador costumes.
