The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Fernando Centeno, which opened in 2004, received its current name in 2012.

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Genalguacil houses the permanent collection of Genalguacil Pueblo Museo.

More than 200 artists have left works through the Encuentros de Arte de Genalguacil. These works are located throughout the town’s whitewashed streets and squares; together, they form a forest of sculptures.

If you would like to explore Genalguacil’s streets, shaped by sculptures, murals, and works of art, Plaza del Pueblo is a meeting place and a suitable starting point.

The Conjunto Histórico de Genalguacil features a street layout of Arab origin and whitewashed houses.

For a museum visit, opening hours vary by season: in winter, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Fernando Centeno is open from Wednesday to Sunday; in summer, from Thursday to Sunday; and in August, every day. You can use this seasonal schedule directly when planning the timing of your museum visit. A visit in August therefore falls within the daily opening hours, while different days of the week apply in winter and summer.

The Iglesia de San Pedro Mártir de Verona was destroyed during the Morisco rebellion of 1570 and rebuilt in the 18th century. Its architectural history therefore extends from its destruction in the 16th century to its reconstruction in the 18th century.

It has three naves separated by semicircular arches and an octagonal bell tower. The three naves and the bell tower are among the clearly defined architectural features of the rebuilt church.

Genalguacil holds a feria and festivals in honor of Saint Peter Martyr of Verona. Huerto del Niño is a tradition in Genalguacil celebrated on Easter Sunday.

In addition to the festivals in honor of the town’s patron saint, Huerto del Niño is therefore also a local tradition linked to the Easter period.

Nature

Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja is a natural area.

The Los Realillos hiking trail runs along part of the ridge of Los Reales. It ends in the middle of the Spanish fir forest at the Plazoleta de Genalguacil. Its route therefore connects the ridge of Los Reales with the Spanish fir forest and the aforementioned destination.

The Paseo de los Pinsapos begins with a winding descent. The descent passes through a Spanish fir forest on peridotite and through vegetation typical of the region.

On the Paseo de los Pinsapos, Iberian ibexes, common chameleons, and Andalusian wall lizards can be observed. Birds found there include black kites and European honey buzzards; other birds can also be seen.

The Mirador del Valle del Genal offers views of the Genal Valley. From there, the view also extends to the chestnut groves surrounding Genalguacil.
