Viñuela: Reservoir, Culture and Trails
The La Viñuela Reservoir covers the valley between La Viñuela and Los Romanes. There are water sports facilities in the area around the reservoir. There is also a recreational area with barbecue sites, mini golf and a football pitch. The landscape by the water thus combines several named places and various leisure activities.
Water and Trails
The municipality of Viñuela has signposted important points along the peripheral route that leads from Las Monjas to El Castillejo on the opposite side of the reservoir. The named waypoints therefore lie along a route that follows the opposite side of the lake.
The Ruta del Agua begins in the centre of La Viñuela and leaves the town via Calle Camino de la Fuente. Along this route, it turns west in a 90-degree bend. Those following the described route first pass through the town centre and then reach the westbound stretch outside the town.
Along the route, signs point to the old washhouse, the bathing area of Pozanco and Fuente Lejos. The waymarkers also identify the historic irrigation channel, as well as other historic and natural features connected with the Arroyo de los Cortijuelos. The path therefore passes named points associated both with former water use and with the stream.
Culture and History
The Ermita Virgen de las Angustias is located in the Barriada de Los RamÃrez; the commission for its construction was made in 1888. The Torre de la Atalaya is registered as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) in accordance with Law 14/2007.
Festivals and Music
The Fiesta de la Pasa is possibly considered one of the oldest festivals associated with local raisin cultivation. One edition of the Fiesta de la Pasa included a market selling typical products and handicrafts from the comarca. The festival is therefore associated both with local raisin cultivation and with a market for products and handicrafts from the comarca.
Verdiales are a rural form of musical expression in which the pandas, made up of fiesteros, sing a type of fandangos. They are accompanied by lutes, guitars and violins. The musical performance thus comprises the pandas' singing and accompaniment by the three named groups of instruments.
Getting There by Car
When travelling by car, the route leads from the A-7 via Vélez-Málaga at exit 272. It then continues along the A-356 towards La Viñuela. After that, the A-7205 leads to the town entrance. This sequence of roads connects the mentioned motorway section with the approach via Vélez-Málaga and the two subsequent roads to La Viñuela.
