La Cala del Moral Beach is an approximately 1.5-kilometre-long urban beach integrated into the seafront promenade. The beach has an accessible entrance, toilets, showers, sun lounger and parasol hire, waste bins and a cleaning service. Numerous cavities in the intertidal zone lie beneath the Acantilados de El Cantal, providing a habitat for endemic Mediterranean species.

Nature and Trails

The walk along the Acantilados de El Cantal can follow paths by the sea or pass through the old El Cantal tunnels. The tunnels are a historic structure with the character of the early 20th century. There is also a rocky path by the Santuario de la Virgen del Carmen connecting La Cala del Moral with Rincón de la Victoria. The Santuario de la Virgen del Carmen offers panoramic views.

Culture and Faith

The present-day Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario replaced the former parish chapel on Avenida Principal, which had become too small due to rapid population growth. The festival of the Virgen del Rosario in La Cala del Moral takes place in October after a solemn triduum. A few days before the solemn procession, the square in front of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario is decorated with a large carpet made of natural flowers. After Mass, the monstrance is solemnly carried through the streets of La Cala del Moral.

The procession of the Virgen del Carmen takes place every year on 16 July. The image is carried from the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario to the sea, where it is placed on a traditional boat. The Santuario de la Virgen del Carmen is a place of devotion for seafarers and the local community; it is located at the end of the Paseo Marítimo in the El Cantal area of La Cala del Moral.

Caves and Archaeology

The guided visit to the Cueva de la Victoria includes rock art from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods. The Cueva de la Victoria was opened to the public with a two-hour tour led by an expert. The visitor address is Urbanización, Avenida de Picasso, C. el Cantal 21, 29730 La Cala del Moral, Málaga.

The Parque Arqueológico del Mediterráneo includes replicas of walls with prehistoric rock paintings inspired by finds from the Cueva del Tesoro. Its paths, bordered by natural rocks, are suitable for peaceful walks.

Festivals

At the Noche de San Juan on 23 June in La Cala del Moral, a family programme, dance performances and live music were planned; the burning of Júas in a large beach bonfire was also scheduled to continue into the night.
