Culture
The Fiesta de los Alcaldillos associated with Fuente Victoria is an intangible tradition. The Iglesia de la Encarnación was built in 1557; its design combines elements of the Mudéjar, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. The Ermita Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles was built in the 17th century. It is the sanctuary where the miraculous image of the town’s patron saint is venerated. The Palacio del Rey Chico is a Mudéjar-style building constructed in the 17th century.
According to tradition, the Fuente de la Reina was built in honor of Morayma, Boabdil’s wife, after her death. The Fuente Plaza Maestro Barco is a fountain built in the 19th century from stones taken from local mines. The Pósito-Ayuntamiento was built during the resettlement of 1572.
Fuente Victoria therefore brings together religious buildings, a palace, fountains and a historic administrative building. Their different dates of origin range from the resettlement in 1572 through the 17th century to the construction of the fountain in the 19th century. The Fiesta de los Alcaldillos complements these architectural testimonies with a traditional practice associated with the town.
Other Places
Other places include Lubrín, Vera, Cuevas Del Almanzora, Villaricos, Cóbdar, Llano de Los Olleres, Los Gallardos and Lucainena De Las Torres.
Wine
Bodega Fuente Victoria offers guided tours and wine tastings. The wines of Bodega Fuente Victoria are protected by the protected geographical indication Láujar-Alpujarra. In Fuente Victoria, the winery produces white, rosé and red wines.
The winery therefore combines tours of its facilities with tastings of the wines produced there. In addition to white wine, its range includes rosé and red wines; at the same time, the protected geographical indication Láujar-Alpujarra indicates the winery’s regional setting.
Hiking Trails
The SL-A 181 Las Acequias del Río hiking trail passes Fuente Victoria and runs along a path between cultivated fields and poplar groves. The same hiking trail passes through a semi-desert-like rambla, a riverbank area with lush vegetation and a vega.
The landscape along the SL-A 181 thus alternates between cultivated fields, poplar stands, a semi-desert-like rambla, a lushly vegetated riverbank area and a vega. Along its route, the trail connects these different landscape types as it passes Fuente Victoria.
The PR-A 203 hiking trail offers views of the Sierra Nevada and the Andarax Valley. It connects Fondón and Fuente Victoria and passes through El Chaparral, which is considered a Mediterranean forest. The route from Almería to Fondón for the PR-A 203 follows the former national road to Granada, now called A92a or N340a, and then continues along the A348 toward Alhama de Almería. A historic path along the Acequia Tejera connects Fuente Victoria and Benecid.
The PR-A 203 therefore includes both the connection between Fondón and Fuente Victoria and the route through El Chaparral. The stated views of the Sierra Nevada and the Andarax Valley, as well as the approach via A92a or N340a and then the A348, add regional context to the trail description.
Landscape
The trails around Fuente Victoria showcase various landscapes: fields and poplar groves, the semi-desert-like rambla, the vegetated riverbank area and the vega are all part of the described surroundings, as is El Chaparral, classified as a Mediterranean forest. The Sierra Nevada and the Andarax Valley are also visible from the PR-A 203.
