History
The medieval Castillo Medieval and the Torre del Homenaje were built in the first half of the 14th century on a Muslim fortress that in turn stood on a Roman structure. The keep of the Castillo de Cañete de las Torres features vertical and horizontal defensive elements, including machicolations, openings for dropping projectiles and loopholes. La Torre is a remnant of the former castle and is integrated into the architecture of Plaza de Andalucía. El Tercia is an industrial building from the 18th century in Cañete de las Torres.
The Iglesia de Ntra. Sra. de la Asunción was built in 1260 on the orders of Bishop Fernando de Mesa; its present appearance dates from a later construction phase in the 17th century. The Ermita de Madre de Dios is dedicated to María Santísima del Campo Coronada, the patron saint of the town; its origins are dated to the 13th or 14th century.
