Culture

In Fernán-Núñez, the Ducal Palace and the adjoining buildings together form the historic ensemble of Fernán-Núñez. This ensemble was protected by Royal Decree 2495/1983 of 13 July 1983. The Ducal Palace includes two towers as structural elements.

The present-day Iglesia de Santa Marina de Aguas Santas dates from the 18th century and stands on the remains of an older church. This older church was built shortly after 1385. The bell tower of the Iglesia de Santa Marina de Aguas Santas was originally one of the fortress towers. The church houses a collection of gold and silver works. The pieces in it date from the 16th to the 20th century.

The Ermita de la Caridad dates back to 1525. At that time, the Santa Ana Chapel was built at its present location. The former Hospicio y Hospital de la Caridad served to care for the sick and pilgrims.

During the Cruces de Mayo, May crosses are erected and decorated in the streets and squares of Fernán-Núñez on 2 and 3 May.

The Feria Real in honour of the Virgen del Tránsito takes place from 13 to 17. It includes, among other things, a parade with giant figures and large papier-mâché heads.

The Feria and the festivities in honour of Santa Marina de las Aguas Santas are celebrated in Fernán-Núñez from 18 to 20. These festivities include various fairground rides and other attractions.

The Ruta de las Fuentes connects Fernán-Núñez with Montemayor via country estates and springs. During Jueves Lardero in Fernán-Núñez, an excursion into the surrounding countryside is part of the celebrations. This excursion includes a Perol and the traditional Hornazo.
