Nature and Trails

Biodiversity and a local ecosystem shape the landscape on the eastern and southern slopes of Montevive. From there, the views extend to the Sierra Nevada and El Temple.

The „De la Vega al Secano“ tourist route is designed as a circular trail of low difficulty. The 10.5-kilometre route is estimated to take four to five hours, while the starting point is at the Parque Ferial. These details provide a clear timeframe for planning the day without reducing the route to a short circuit around the town.

Churches and History

The Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción has a single-nave layout. Its side chapels are connected by round arches.

The main altar niche of the church contains a depiction of the Immaculate Conception. It is by Pedro de Mena and is listed in the Catálogo General del Arte Español.

The Parroquia de la Inmaculada Concepción was built over a mosque. Mudéjar, Renaissance and Baroque styles can be seen in it.

The Ermita de la Virgen de la Aurora was built at the beginning of the 19th century. Inside, the image of the Virgen de la Aurora is venerated.

Remains of the former fortress of Alhendín have survived. In 1500, these remains were an important setting in the suppression of the first Morisco revolt.

The Aljibe del Cortijo de Miñarro is an Arab hydraulic structure. It collects rainwater naturally. The water is used to irrigate the properties.

Traditions and Local Culture

San Marcos is a local tradition in Alhendín. On 25 April, families and friends go to the countryside to practise „cascar el huevo“. The bread associated with this custom is called „el macarrón“ in Alhendín.

The Reverencias are considered a tradition that has existed for more than one hundred years. They take place on Easter Sunday in front of the Ermita de la Virgen de la Aurora, where a depiction of the Resurrection takes place.

At the XVIII Feria de Productos Agrícolas y Artesanales in Alhendín, local producers presented their products. These included fruit, vegetables, cheese and honey from the municipality's Vega.
