Beach, sea and paths in La Mamola

La Mamola combines a peaceful day at the beach with paths along the coast and excursions into the heights of Cautor. Playa de La Mamola is a quiet beach with fine, dark sand and calm water suitable for swimming with the family. Several restaurants and chiringuitos along the promenade serve local cuisine. This means that swimming, a meal on the promenade and observing the coastal landscape take place in different, clearly recognisable settings.

La Mamola beach can be reached by car or intercity bus via the N-340. For getting your bearings locally, the coastal path Camino de ribera entre Castillo de Baños y La Mamola is also of interest. The 2.5-metre-wide footpath has a granular surface and runs parallel to the N-340 between Castillo de Baños beach and La Mamola beach. It lies on the outer side, adjacent to the coastal protection embankment.

Along 670 metres of its length, this coastal path has a treated-wood safety railing on the outer edge. The precise information on the path’s length, surface and railing provides practical guidance when planning different stages. Those who want to view the coast from more than just the beach therefore have a clearly described section of path between two beaches.

Fishing, boats and a peaceful beach

The eight breakwaters at Playa de La Mamola are used by recreational anglers. In addition, the beach has an anchorage area for yachts and sports boats. The breakwaters and anchorage area thus form two further visible features of the beach landscape without changing the character of the peaceful beach with its fine, dark sand and calm water.

Hiking with views of the Alborán

Polopos-La Mamola is connected by the 6.6-kilometre SL-A 326 La Atalaya de Cautor hiking trail. The trail follows former routes used by troops and muleteers between the Trigo and Cautor ravines and the beaches of La Mamola. It is designated as a route of ecological and cultural-historical interest and is suitable for families.

From the heights of Cautor, the hiking trail offers views across the sea to the horizon of the Alborán. On the same route, therefore, both the landscape between ravines and beaches and the historic route itself take centre stage. The length of 6.6 kilometres helps with stage planning, while the designated ecological and cultural-historical features provide the trail with a clear thematic focus.

Culture and cycling tradition

There is also a historic site in the vicinity of La Mamola: Torre del Cantor, also known as Torre del Túnel de la Manola and Torre del Cautor, is registered in Polopos as a B.I.C. monument. The three names belong to this registered monument and make the historical orientation during a visit to Polopos-La Mamola particularly clear.

Cycling is represented by the XXVI Gran Premio Comarca de Polopos-La Mamola. The annual road cycling race is organised by the Ayuntamiento de La Mamola and leads to Haza del Lino. The race connects La Mamola with Haza del Lino.
