The Acequia de Aynadamar follows its historic route from the Fuente de Aynadamar to Granada through Víznar. A restored section can be seen between Alfacar and Víznar on the right-hand side of the road in the direction of Alfacar–Víznar.

Culture

The Palacio del Cuzco in Víznar was built in the 18th century in the classical Italian style and completed in 1795. Several scenes from Cervantes’ Don Quixote are believed to be depicted in its lower gallery.

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pilar was built between 1530 and 1541, modelled on rural Mudéjar churches. It preserves a collection of 78 Renaissance and Baroque works, including paintings, sculptures, goldsmithery, furniture, ceramics and textiles.

Hiking

The hiking trail to Cerro del Maúllo leads to trenches from the Spanish Civil War and to a viewpoint overlooking the Sierra Nevada. The 3,520-metre trail has a low level of difficulty and an estimated duration of one and a half hours.

The hiking trail to Cruz de Víznar is 5.7 kilometres long, also has a low level of difficulty and has an estimated duration of two hours. It offers panoramic views of the Vega de Granada and the Sierra Nevada and makes it possible to experience the transition from the mountain region to the flat plain of the Granada Depression.

Nature

The Puerto Lobo area is home to the CRIN, the Centro de Recepción e Interpretación de la Naturaleza, which can be reached from the centre of Víznar. The Sierra de Huétor area associated with Víznar offers opportunities for hiking and mountain biking; ecological trails connect recreational areas, springs and viewpoints there.

Peñón de Víznar reaches an altitude of 1,543 metres. From there, wooded rocky heights and narrow gorges can be seen.

Traditions

Víznar has had a bread-baking tradition since at least the 17th century. The town’s traditional bakeries produced loaves, cakes, hornazos and Moorish pastries, supplying the neighbouring population of Granada.

The Semana Cultural de Víznar takes place in August and includes exhibitions on crafts, painting, agricultural equipment, the flora and aromatic plants of the Sierra de Víznar, García Lorca and photography.

Each edition of the Semana Cultural de Víznar includes events dedicated to Federico García Lorca. On the night of 18–19 August, a memorial event is held at Los Pozos in the Barranco de Víznar on the Camino de Fuente Grande, the site of mass shootings during the Spanish Civil War and the place associated with the death of the poet Federico García Lorca.

For further travel planning, you can also find Atalbéitar, Alhama De Granada, Castilléjar, Illora, Gorafe, Castillo De Tajarja, Orgiva and Jerez Del Marquesado.
