Nature and Landscape

The Mirador de Lújar is a natural viewing balcony offering views across the agricultural terraces, the Sierra and the sea.

The Alcornocal de Lújar is considered a refuge for wild animals and also a starting point for hiking routes that begin there.

The Sierra de Lújar is a mountain range in the south of the Spanish province of Granada and belongs to the Baetic Systems of the Penibaetic Range.

The Sierra de Lújar is bordered by the Río Guadalfeo to the north and west. To the east, it is bordered by the Sierra de la Contraviesa, and to the south by the Mediterranean Sea.

The highest point of the Sierra de Lújar is Pico de Los Pelaos, at an elevation of 1,878 metres above sea level.

Thus, agricultural terraces, a mountain range, the neighbouring landscapes and the coast come together in one place. The elevation of Pico de Los Pelaos adds a clearly named summit to this landscape.

Culture

The Iglesia de Santo Cristo de Cabrilla was built between 1614 and 1618 in the Mudéjar style.

The Iglesia de Santo Cristo de Cabrilla has three naves separated from one another by round arches between pillars.

The central nave is higher and wider than the side naves.

The exterior tower of the Iglesia de Santo Cristo de Cabrilla has a square ground plan and three storeys.

The description of the church therefore covers both its period of construction and Mudéjar style, as well as the layout of the interior and the form of the exterior tower.
