Villanueva de las Torres: Culture, Landscape and Thermal Baths

Culture and History

The archaeological sites of Baños de Alicún have been classified as Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) since 2008. This classification was extended in 2018. Eight dolmens were found at the sites. Other traces discovered there include flint remains, arrowheads, knives, pottery vessels and graves. Remains have been found in the archaeological area of Baños de Alicún. These remains include a Roman villa and a medieval Hispano-Muslim alquería. The archaeological evidence therefore includes both individual objects and burials, as well as structural remains from two different historical contexts. The chronological span extends from the dolmens and their associated finds to Roman and medieval architecture; the BIC classification and its subsequent extension form part of this interpretation of the site.
