The Cueva del Agua is located within the municipality of Iznalloz, a cave on the southeastern slope of Cabezo del Asno. It lies in the Sierra Harana at an altitude of around 1,750 metres. Excavations in the Cueva del Agua uncovered evidence of human use. This ranges from the Eneolithic, Argaric, Roman and Arab cultures through to the present day.

Nature

The protected ZEC Sierra de Arana covers an area of 20,010 hectares. The protected area also extends across Iznalloz. One of the area's major karst formations is the Cueva del Agua de Iznalloz. Extensive crystal formations are found in the eastern part of the Cueva del Agua. The Laguna del Glaciar is also located there. It is nearly 14 metres deep. The cave also features labyrinthine passages.

Between Cogollos Vega and Deifontes, a steep access road leads to the Cueva del Agua. It is approximately 6 kilometres long. The altitude, karst formations and internal structure of the cave are therefore tied to specific geographical details.

Hiking

The route to the Mirador del Sotillo is designated as a circular trail. The trail description provides three specific details for planning your day: the route is 1,876 metres long, takes approximately 30 minutes and has a medium difficulty level.

The Las Corzas-La Melera trail leads to Pico de las Víboras. This peak is located at an altitude of 1,428 metres. The destination is a viewpoint with a 360-degree field of vision. The route passes through diverse vegetation and an area of ornithological interest.

The El Sotillo Museo Micológico trail begins in the El Sotillo area. This is located around 5 kilometres southeast of Iznalloz via the Carretera de la Sierra. The trail ends at a mushroom museum, a museum dedicated to fungi.

The trail descriptions therefore name not only the respective destinations, but also the precise designation of the starting area and the landscape features along the route. For the Mirador del Sotillo, the circular route, distance, duration and medium difficulty level are provided together; Las Corzas-La Melera connects the viewpoint with vegetation and ornithological interest.

Culture

The Castillo de Iznalloz preserves the remains of two attached towers. The surviving parts also include two large bastions. In addition, a significant remnant of the former rammed-earth wall remains.

The parish church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios was designed by Siloé. Its construction began in 1549. Juan de Maeda, a pupil of Siloé, also worked on the building. The sculptor Alonso Hernández was involved as well.

Thus, the parish church preserves records of both its design and the beginning of its construction, as well as the artists involved. At the Castillo de Iznalloz, the two towers, the bastions and the remnant of the former rammed-earth wall are among the surviving structural elements.
