In Cabra del Santo Cristo, the Casa-Museum Arturo Cerdá y Rico is a center for the interpretation of photography. The museum has three exhibition rooms and is housed in a restored modernist building dating from 1900. This building is dedicated to photography. A permanent exhibition includes cameras from the period since the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The chronological scope of the collection thus combines early cameras from the past century with exhibits from the present day. The three exhibition rooms are located within the restored building, whose year of construction adds to the museum’s historical context.

The parish church and the Sanctuary of Santo Cristo de Burgos are examples of Andalusian Baroque. They were built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Since 1637, the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Expectación has also served as the Sanctuary of Santo Cristo de Burgos. The Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Expectación is designated as a Bien de Interés Cultural. Thus, the parish church, the sanctuary and the heritage designation are historically connected at this site.

History

The Castillo de Cabra del Santo Cristo is of Roman origin. Muslim and Christian settlements later existed there. The Christian settlement is dated to the 13th century. The layout of the Castillo de Cabra del Santo Cristo is polygonal. The remains of three towers have survived. A section of the castle wall of the Castillo de Cabra del Santo Cristo measuring almost 20 meters in length remains today. It lies between the northeastern and northwestern towers. The historical sequence and the surviving structural elements thus belong to the different periods identified at the Castillo.

Nature and Trails

Marine fossils may be visible on the surface at the Puente de Tierra. They include ammonites and belemnites. Those who walk the route to the Puente de Tierra can choose, depending on the option selected, a circular route of about 17 km or an out-and-back route of around 12 km. The two route types therefore differ in their course, while the stated lengths remain approximate figures in each case.

The surroundings of the Paraje del Nacimiento are suitable for a day trip into the countryside and for experiencing nature. Cerro de Cabeza Montosa is a geologically interesting area associated with submarine volcanic activity. Both of these natural sites retain their own distinct, factually described character within the surroundings of Cabra del Santo Cristo.

Festivals and Sightseeing

The Fiestas Patronales are held in honor of Santo Cristo de Cabra. They take place from August 14 to 18. Guided tours are offered in Cabra del Santo Cristo. They lead to representative buildings and sites in the municipality. These tours therefore focus on several buildings and sites within the municipality, rather than just one individual structure.
