Coastline on Wooden Walkways and Nature Along the Stream

Sitio de Calahonda reveals its special character where coastal landscapes and nature observation meet. The Senda Litoral Mijas forms part of the Senda Litoral de Málaga project; the current section runs between La Cala de Mijas and Calahonda. Many sections follow wooden walkways parallel to the Mediterranean. At certain points, information boards provide details about the area’s natural features and the animal and plant species that live there. This makes it possible to view a walk not only as a route by the sea, but also as an opportunity to observe the landscape.

Walks with Views of Biodiversity

The Sendero Arroyo Los Alamos offers a different perspective. It provides a one-kilometre walk running upstream parallel to the stream and is suitable for observing birds and butterflies. Despite its location in a highly urbanised area, the Arroyo Los Álamos preserves an ecosystem with great biological diversity. The explicitly varied surroundings of wooden walkway, Mediterranean coast and stream make these routes interesting for visitors who want to experience different landscape impressions over short distances.

Beach and Getting Around in Calahonda

Playa Calahonda - Riviera is easy to reach on foot, by car and by bus. Bus route M-119 is available for connections within the urbanisation. It is a circular route with several stops within the urbanisation and connects Calahonda with Fuengirola and La Cala de Mijas.

Parks, Paths and Exercise in the Area

There are also paths and green spaces away from the coast, each with clearly defined features. A nature trail leads from Parque Calahonda to Avenida de los Jardines; information signs explain the local flora and fauna. Parque España has a children’s playground, an area for outdoor exercise and spacious areas for walking.

Historic Sites and Local Traditions

The cultural side of Sitio de Calahonda includes the Torre de Calahonda, which was completed in 1575. Today’s Iglesia de San Miguel was consecrated as a church on 25 May 2003. In connection with the Iglesia de San Miguel, a Romería was organised from one settlement to another. The Ermita de Calahonda offers views of the Mediterranean. On moonless nights, particularly in summer, the starry sky there attracts some residents. Architectural history, religious sites and observing the night sky thus add distinctive features alongside the beach and nature.

Golf as Another Local Feature

Club de Golf La Siesta is located in the heart of Sitio de Calahonda. It is a nine-hole, par-3 course founded in 1989.
