Coast

History
Castillo Sohail is a castle in the immediate vicinity of Fuengirola and an Arab fortress that has been converted into a concert hall and a multi-purpose venue. It is located at the mouth of the Fuengirola River on an isolated hill. The hill rises 38 metres above sea level, while Castillo Sohail offers panoramic views.
The slopes of Castillo Sohail were continuously inhabited in ancient times by Punic and Roman communities. Fuengirola's historical sites also include the Roman Baths of Torreblanca. They are an ancient Roman bathing complex, classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural, recently restored and conserved, and part of Fuengirola's archaeological heritage.
At the Parque del Yacimiento on the Finca del Secretario, visitors can view Roman archaeological remains. Explanatory panels illustrate life during this period.
Culture
The Museo de la Ciudad is a cultural institution that hosts temporary exhibitions. On Plaza de la Constitución stands a century-old ficus known locally as “Arbol de las Pelotillas”, opposite the Iglesia del Rosario.
The Feria del Rosario takes place every year from 6 to 12 October. It includes a procession of the patron saint, dancing, and a parade with horses and carriages.
Fuengirola's cultural profile thus includes both exhibitions at the Museo de la Ciudad and places and events in public spaces. The century-old ficus on Plaza de la Constitución stands opposite the Iglesia del Rosario.
Nature
At BIOPARC Fuengirola, visitors can see more than 200 animal species from tropical rainforests. The animals live in habitats from Africa, Asia, Madagascar and the islands of the Indo-Pacific.
The Mirador Antena Benalmadena, a viewpoint, is located in the surroundings of Fuengirola. Also in the surrounding area are the Enoteca Museo del Vino Mijas, a museum, and the Castillo Monumento Colomares, also a museum.
Getting around
The walk from Fuengirola railway station to the marina takes about 20 minutes.
