Teba: Dolmen, Hiking Routes and Andalusian Culture

Culture and History

The La Lentejuela necropolis comprises 12 dolmens across just over 6 hectares and is considered the largest concentration of megalithic structures in the province of Málaga. The dolmens date from the Late Neolithic and the Copper Age; evidence suggests they were reused during the Bronze Age. The dolmen complex includes two peristalith circles with burial mounds inside, as well as several chamber tombs.

The Cueva de las Palomas comprises an underground system that served as a refuge for prehistoric communities, as well as schematic red rock paintings from the Copper Age. As part of Teba Ciudad Cervantina, ten street totems provide information about the geographical context of 1594, Cervantes, his life and work, as well as Dulcinea, Sancho, and episodes from Don Quixote. Hiking Routes

The route through the Sierra de La Lentejuela begins at Teba’s industrial estate, is signposted, and has a moderate to high difficulty level; its length is given as 12 kilometres. The route through the Sierra de La Lentejuela leads to the remains of the ancient Roman city at Cortijo del Tajo. The route also includes the two peristalith circles with their burial mounds and the chamber tombs of the La Lentejuela dolmen complex.

The Tajo del Molino route begins on Calle Santiago in Teba, is signposted, and is of moderate difficulty. The route is listed as 10 kilometres and just over 9 kilometres. Along the route, the Nacimiento de Torró is mentioned, a spring that supplies water to the surrounding vegetable gardens and part of Teba.

The Feria Mercado del Queso Artesano is recognised as a Fiesta de Singularidad Turística.
