Los Corrales between Flamenco, Nature and History
In Los Corrales, festivals, historical traces and the nature of the Fuente del Esparto come together.
Architectural History and Archaeological Traces
The Iglesia Parroquial de Santiago el Mayor is a historic building in Los Corrales, located at Plaza Diamantino GarcĂa Acosta 18. The church was built in the 18th century. Its floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross, with three naves, each divided into three sections.
Nature and archaeology also come together at the Cortijo de Repla. In addition to a grotto from which a spring emerges, the remains of a Roman fortification were found there. Numerous pottery fragments and several silver coins, known as denarii, were discovered in the surrounding area. Archaeologists have suggested that the ruins may correspond to Ilipa or Ilipula Minor.
Flamenco, Summer Programme and Traditions
Los Corrales hosts various events. The Festival Flamenco de la Sierra Sur takes place every August and has brought major figures from singing, guitar playing and dance together with young emerging talents for decades. The Semana Cultural of Los Corrales complements the events calendar as an established summer programme featuring art exhibitions, music, theatre and performances.
Several traditions lead to or take place near the Fuente del Esparto. The pilgrimage in honour of Our Lady of Good Success, the patron saint of Los Corrales, takes place in March near the stream of the Fuente del Esparto. During the traditional RomerĂa, the route to the Fuente del Esparto is made with floats and carts. During the celebrations in honour of the Virgen del Buensuceso on the first weekend of May, restaurants serve Chivo frito.
Nature and Active Experiences
The Fuente del Esparto is a natural tourist area located two kilometres from the municipality and surrounded by woodland. The stream of the Fuente del Esparto is the main watercourse crossing the municipal area of Los Corrales. There are hiking trails in its natural surroundings. From Los Corrales, you can explore the Sierra Sur by bicycle, while the Ana Reverte riding school organises horse-riding routes around Los Corrales.
As part of an improvement project, the access routes, trail drainage and barbecue and picnic areas at the Fuente del Esparto were upgraded. This allows you to combine cultural events, architectural and archaeological history, trails and landscapes when planning your trip. When choosing accommodation in Los Corrales, you can take these different interests into account, along with the event dates.
