Nature and Landscape

The eastern and southern parts of the Quesada area belong to the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Nature Park. The source of the Guadalquivir is located at La Cañada de las Fuentes, within the municipality of Quesada. The section of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Nature Park within the municipality of Quesada includes, among other things, Corsican pines, Aleppo pines, yew trees and numerous endemic plant species.

The Cueva del Agua is a natural limestone cave where the water of the Río Tíscar meets the rocks of Monte de Caballo. From the A-6206, it can be reached via a paved path. From the car park, stairs lead to a low, narrow tunnel.

Culture and History

The CIPAQ, the Centro de Interpretación del Patrimonio Arqueológico de Quesada, presents Quesada’s prehistoric and Roman heritage. This includes Levantine and schematic rock art, which was recognised by UNESCO as World Heritage in 1998. The CIPAQ thus brings together two historical periods of Quesada; the rock art presented includes both Levantine and schematic depictions.

The Museo Miguel Hernández - Josefina Manresa presents the life and work of the poet Miguel Hernández and his wife Josefina Manresa in six exhibition rooms. The Museo Rafael Zabaleta displays numerous oil paintings, watercolours and drawings, as well as other modern art collections.

The Villa romana de Bruñel includes an Iberian necropolis dating from the 4th century BC. Its Roman settlement dates from the 2nd to the 4th century AD. Visits to the villa are arranged through the Quesada Tourist Office. The site therefore combines evidence of the Iberian necropolis with the later Roman settlement; visits are arranged through the Tourist Office.

Quesada’s old quarter is characterised by white streets. The traditionally designed houses are decorated with flower pots, flowers and flower beds. One entrance is the de la Manquita de Utrera arch, which is of Visigothic origin. The white streets, planted houses and de la Manquita de Utrera arch are among the features mentioned for this historic quarter.

Hiking

Stage 12 of the GR247 runs through the municipality of Quesada. A municipal hiking guide for Quesada presents 20 routes. They differ in length and difficulty. The guide contains technical information, tracks, maps and photographs.

Festivals and Food

The San Sebastián celebrations in Quesada take place from 19 to 21 January. During the procession of the saint, flag displays are part of the programme. The celebrations end with a Luminaria. Products from the traditional slaughter and wine are sampled during this event.

The San Antón celebration in Quesada includes street bonfires. Migas, as well as fried morcillas, chorizos and tocino, are also part of the festivities.
