Nature and Karst Landscape

Villanueva del Trabuco is home to the Fuente de los Cien Caños – Nacimiento del Río Guadalhorce natural monument, designated in 2011 and covering 8.25 hectares. The natural monument is integrated into the ZEC Sierra de Camarolos. The Fuente de los Cien Caños is the source of the Río Guadalhorce. There, the waters of the Sierra de San Jorge are collected through irrigation channels.

The Sierra de San Jorge is a limestone lapiaz several kilometres in size, with a karst depression containing the Laguna de San Jorge. The Laguna de San Jorge is designated as a point of interest on the PR-A-353 Sierra de San Jorge. On the PR-A 394 Sierra Gorda, the Cueva de Toma y Bebe and the Mirador Alto de Hondonero are designated as points of interest.

Routes and Active Experiences

The PR-A-353 Sierra de San Jorge is a 10-kilometre circular route that starts and ends in Villanueva del Trabuco at the Fuente de los 100 Caños. The 19-kilometre PR-A 394 Sierra Gorda circular route runs from the Camino de Borreguero to the Camino de Gumeo in Villanueva del Trabuco. It can be travelled on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback, and runs through the ZEC Sierra de Camarolos.

The 3.5-kilometre linear E4-GR-7 route from Villanueva del Rosario to Villanueva del Trabuco runs from the Carretera A-7203 to the Camino de Gumeo. This route can be used on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback and is signposted with GR trail markers approved by the Andalusian Mountaineering Federation.

The Vía Ferrata de la Pita combines vertical sections with bridges and exposed passages. From Villanueva del Trabuco, its car park can be reached via the Camino Borreguero; leave the Cortijo Borreguero behind and follow the path to a junction.

Church, Brewery and Events

The Iglesia Parroquial is considered the only monument of interest in Villanueva del Trabuco. It dates from the time when Villanueva del Trabuco was founded as part of Charles III's repopulation plans.

The Alma craft brewery in Villanueva del Trabuco offers public tours and tastings of its craft beer. The Encuentro de Coleccionismo combines the buying and selling and exhibition of collectables with activities, classic cars and offerings that are particularly appealing to children and young people.

The eighth Feria Agroganadera in Villanueva del Trabuco included livestock shows, agricultural machinery and workshops for all age groups. The Ruta Lunar is a traditional summer horse-riding event in Villanueva del Trabuco that brings together riders from different parts of Andalusia every year. The Ruta Lunar on horseback covers approximately 20 kilometres through the natural landscapes of Villanueva del Trabuco by moonlight.
