El Ronquillo: Trails, Culture and Dehesa Landscape

El Ronquillo lies between the Rivera de Huelva and the Rivera de Cala. The town is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Morena.

Landscape and Trails

The SL-A 254 Las Cañadas linear hiking trail measures 2.1 kilometres in each direction. It is considered an easy route. You can walk, cycle or ride a horse along it.

The trail begins in the urban area of El Ronquillo and leads into a dehesa landscape. The dehesa landscape includes several streams, which may be dry depending on the season.

The Ruta del Barranco de la Lana begins in the town of El Ronquillo. It starts at Pozo Celeste or Piletas. The Junta de Andalucía designates it as a route for sporting use.

The Ruta Sierra Clara II is a short circular route. It has steep inclines. The higher section offers expansive panoramic views.

The Vía Verde de El Ronquillo follows a former railway line that connected the Minas de Cala with San Juan de Aznalfarache. The railway was in operation for more than 50 years.

Nature by the Water

The Pantano La Minilla offers the opportunity to spend a day with the family. There, you can enjoy the landscape and surroundings. Barbecuing and hiking are also possible there.

Culture and History

The Parroquia del Divino Salvador was built in the early years of the 17th century. It was rebuilt between 1774 and 1777.

A small stone chapel was built in the first half of the 16th century on a flattened hill next to the old road and near the site of a medieval pilgrim's cross.

The Sala de Exposiciones in El Ronquillo displays artistic and cultural works. These works originate from the town. Admission is free.

Taste and Tradition

Gurumelos (Amanita ponderosa) are a mushroom characteristic of the area. They are particularly common in March. They can be sampled in bars and restaurants in El Ronquillo.
