La Lantejuela: Nature, Processions and Festivals

The La Lantejuela Endorheic Complex Nature Reserve is located less than three kilometres from the town of La Lantejuela and lies entirely within the municipality of Osuna.

Nature

The Laguna del Gobierno is located approximately 800 metres from the centre of La Lantejuela and can be reached via a path. The Laguna del Gobierno contains water throughout the entire year. It is suitable for ornithological tourism.

The Ornithological Observatory allows visitors to observe the flora and fauna living in the lagoon and its surroundings, as well as to enjoy the landscape.

The Aula de la Naturaleza provides space for events, workshops, courses and information sessions; it also has access to a viewing platform on the roof of the building.

The Ruta de las Lagunas is designed as a cycling tour, starts at the municipal sports centre and ends there again; one of its destinations is a visit to the Lantejuela endorheic complex.

The natural area therefore offers various specific places and activities side by side: the lagoon contains water all year round, the observatory focuses on the living flora and fauna as well as the landscape, and the Aula combines its event spaces with a viewing platform on the roof.

Culture

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Purísima Concepción is the most important monumental building in La Lantejuela.

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Purísima Concepción can be visited during worship hours. The church contains a Dolorosa from the Granada school and a statue of Saint Joseph; both date from the 18th century.

The Romería de la Virgen del Carmen takes place on the last weekend of May. It includes a pilgrimage from the Iglesia Purísima Concepción to the Ermita del Carmen on the nearby Finca de Los Matones.

The Velá de Nuestra Señora del Carmen takes place around 16 July. It includes a procession through the streets of La Lantejuela.

Holy Week in La Lantejuela includes annual processions on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. They are accompanied by Nazarenos, women wearing mantillas and processional marches.

The Feria y Fiestas Patronales of La Lantejuela take place around the festival of the Virgen del Rosario. Events include flamenco, copla and other folkloric performances.

Festivals are held in Lantejuela every year in February. They include a competition, parades, performances, contests and the traditional Chorizada.

The local festival calendar therefore includes both religious dates involving pilgrimages and processions and public events featuring music, folklore, parades and competitions. Each occasion is associated with a specific period or religious feast day.
