Bácor: Trails, Cave Museum and History
Hiking and Landscape
The Trancamulas Trail is a 13-kilometre circular route that starts in the village square and has a moderate difficulty level. Its course includes former drying areas for esparto grass, recalling the landscape’s former use.
At Monte Pajarillo, the route leads to the Centro de Interpretación del Bosque Natural. The SINGULAR MONTE PAJARILLO and TRACAMULAS trail runs through Bácor-Olivar and through an area classified as a desert landscape.
Monte Pajarillo is also home to a natural Aleppo pine forest. In the Hoya de Guadix, this forest is considered unique. Thus, the dry landscape and the characteristic pine forest come together in a small area.
Nature and Views
The Mirador La Chacha Carmen offers views of Cerro Jabalcón and the dam of the NegratÃn Reservoir. The panorama also includes the historic Algarbes from the Arab period and a cave district characteristic of Bácor-Olivar.
The viewpoint therefore brings together several clearly identified landscape and cultural references: Cerro Jabalcón, the reservoir with its dam, the historic Algarbes and the cave architecture of Bácor-Olivar. Each of these elements remains recognisable at the Mirador as a distinct point of reference.
Culture and History
Remains of original settlements have been preserved at Algarbes. The Balsa Romana consists of the remains of a Roman basin on the banks of the Baúl-Bácor stream. Both sites preserve traces of earlier settlement in different forms.
The Iglesia de Bácor-Olivar was built by the inhabitants themselves. The Castillo de Bácor-Olivar is mentioned in caliphal sources, and its history is associated with its capture in the 9th century.
The historical arc therefore extends from the preserved settlement remains at Algarbes, through the Roman basin on the Baúl-Bácor stream, to the church and castle of Bácor-Olivar. Each of the structures and archaeological sites mentioned represents its own historical tradition.
Cave Museum
La Gata Negra, the Museo-Cueva de Rafa Moya, is a cave museum carved into the rock. Its rooms bring together art, history and nature.
The Museo-Cueva de Rafa Moya includes galleries, courtyards and open areas. They preserve works and the memory of a place that originated modestly. The combination of the rock spaces, exhibits and local history defines the site.
The museum therefore focuses not only on the works on display. The rooms carved into the rock, the courtyards and the open areas are also part of its distinctive spatial character.
Access and Connections
Bácor-Olivar has two important access routes, one to the south and one to the north. Both run along the GR-7100 road, which crosses the village from one end to the other.
Another route connects Bácor-Olivar, in this order, with Campo Cámara, Pozo Alcón, Cuevas del Campo, Freila, Zújar and Baza.
