Landscape of Sediments

Reddish sediments in horizontal layers shape the impressive badlands landscape of the Cárcavas de la Rambla del Moral. The layers were deposited by alluvial fans. This geological attraction is located in the municipality of Cuevas del Campo, in the surroundings of the Negratín Reservoir and the Rambla del Moral. For observing the landscape, color, layering and form therefore take center stage together.

Hiking by the Water and in the Geopark

The Sendero Playas del Negratín PR-A-497 circular hiking trail is approximately 14 kilometers long and runs along the shore of the Playas del Negratín Reservoir and along the Rambla de Doblas. The approximate length provides a neutral measure for planning the stages. At the same time, the route connects the reservoir shore with the Rambla de Doblas and thus passes through two clearly named landscape areas.

The Rambla de Doblas is designated as a Georesource because of its impressive badlands formations. In addition, the approved Sendero Playas del Negratín-Catedrales del Geoparque hiking trail lies in the surroundings of the Quaternary Geopark and leads to the geological attraction Badlands y cárcavas del Negratín. Mountains in the Nearer and Wider Surroundings

The surroundings of Cuevas del Campo include Cerro Jabalcón mountain. In the wider regional area, there are also Cerro de Cuenca mountain, Peña de Quesada mountain and Peña Cambrón mountain. Cerro Jabalcón thus represents the surroundings of Cuevas del Campo, while Cerro de Cuenca, Peña de Quesada and Peña Cambrón are assigned to the wider regional area. This distinction is useful when planning excursions if a nearby mountain and more broadly defined regional destinations are to be considered separately.

Historical and Sacred Sites

The historical site of the Alcazaba and the churches Iglesia de Santa Rita, Iglesia De La Merced and Iglesia Mayor are located in the wider regional area of Cuevas del Campo. Traditional Cuisine of Cuevas del Campo

The traditional gastronomy of Cuevas del Campo is influenced by Moorish and Castilian traditions. Traditional dishes include corn gachas, flour migas, chicken fricassee in the pepitoria style, gachastortas, legume stew, gurullos, fritá made with tomatoes and roasted peppers, patatas a lo pobre and homemade cured meats. The range thus extends from grain dishes and stews through vegetable preparations to regional cured meats, offering a distinct culinary theme alongside hiking and geology.

Regional specialty drinks include the liqueurs Chimichurri and Mistela, as well as cuerva. The names of these drinks add another regional aspect to the traditional dishes.
