Torre Del Campo: Olive Oil, Nature and History

The Bosque de la Bañizuela is protected as a natural monument within the RENPA network and is characterized by Mediterranean woodland with ancient trees.

Nature and Trails

The Sendero Cerro Miguelico is a 2.2-kilometre circular trail with an estimated walking time of 1 hour and 15 minutes. The Vía Verde del Aceite passes through Torre del Campo and is intended for cycling and hiking. Cyclists, pedestrians and people with reduced mobility are considered users of the Vía Verde del Aceite.

The section of the Camino Mozárabe between Jaén and Torre del Campo is approximately 13 kilometres long and is rated as moderate. For the Ruta de la Ascensión al Pico Jabalcuz, it is recommended to begin the route at the former Torre del Campo station on the Vía Verde del Aceite.

Culture and History

The Torre Olvidada can be visited freely. The cylindrical medieval tower has a diameter of 8 metres and approximately 3.5 metres of surviving structure. The Iglesia de San Bartolomé preserves elements of a medieval construction project; most of its current form dates from the 16th century.

The Iglesia de San Bartolomé also houses the Cristo de la Vera Cruz from the 16th century. The Castillo del Berrueco is a rural castle of Islamic origin that was extensively remodelled by the Castilians after its conquest. The Ermita de Santa Ana is located on the eastern side of Cerro Miguelico.

A late-medieval fortification dating from the 14th or 15th century preserves several sections of wall as well as a square tower with two rooms covered by pointed-arch vaults.

Festivals and Traditions

The Festival Flamenco Juanito Valderrama is a regularly held cultural event in Torredelcampo and reached its 30th edition in 2026. Animaciones y Recreaciones Mary Turrus has developed three themed routes through Torredelcampo and staged historical reconstructions of Iberian life featuring rituals and everyday scenes.

The Noche de las Migas is a traditional gastronomic event in Torredelcampo for which public registration is available. The Romería de Santa Ana takes place on the first Sunday in May and is recognized as an event of national tourist interest. It includes a rociera Mass and a procession of the patron saint over the hill.

Olive Oil

Oleocampo has a newly redesigned reception area for visitors and an Oleoteca for people who want to learn about the culture of olive growing. In connection with Torredelcampo’s olive oil culture, Oleocampo organizes guided tours of olive farms and oil mills.

Oleocampo also organizes workshops on olive oil tasting and its use. The Centro de Interpretación de Torredelcampo at Oleocampo focuses on the properties and use of olive oil. As part of an oleotourism offering, customers are welcomed in Torredelcampo, where activities take place in the morning and afternoon.
