Culture and History

At the Centro Temático del Campo Andaluz, an olive press, a beam press and agricultural tools illustrate the traditional cultivation and harvesting activities associated with olives and wheat. In the same Centro Temático, visitors can see poems about rural life by the poet and Premio Nacional de Poesía winner Antonio Muñoz Rojas; they are taken from his book “Las cosas del campo”.

The agricultural tools therefore show not only individual objects, but also the connection between cultivation and harvesting that characterizes work with olives and wheat. Antonio Muñoz Rojas’s poems complement this presentation with a literary perspective on rural life. Thus, practical activities and their cultural representation are presented side by side at the Centro Temático del Campo Andaluz.

The Centro Temático del Campo Andaluz presents limestone work as a traditional craft. This craft is important to the local population. The lime used in the process gives houses in Andalusia their characteristic color.

The exhibition at the Centro Temático de las Termas Romanas is divided into six thematic areas. The topics include Roman society. The functioning of the individual bath rooms is also covered. The exhibition explores different ideas about bathing. The time span ranges from the classical Greek period to today’s spas. Arab and Christian bathing traditions are also among the topics covered. The Centro Temático de las Termas Romanas is located in Alameda next to the archaeological site of the Roman baths and the Chalcolithic necropolis.

The six thematic areas thus combine social aspects, the design and function of the rooms, and changing ideas about bathing. The time span extends from the classical Greek period through Arab and Christian bathing traditions to today’s spas. The proximity to the archaeological site of the Roman baths and the Chalcolithic necropolis complements the exhibition with the two neighboring historic sites.

The grave of José María Hinojosa Cobacho is located in the courtyard of Alameda’s parish church. José María Hinojosa Cobacho is known by the name “El Tempranillo”. Guided tours of the grave are available. When visiting the Patio Mausoleo de José María El Tempranillo, both access to the courtyard and the route there involve stairs.

Nature and Trails

The Mirador de la Camorra is located on the summit of the Sierra of the same name. The viewpoint is situated there at an altitude of around 700 meters. You can reach the Mirador de la Camorra by car or on foot via a paved path. From the viewpoint, the view extends across four Andalusian provinces. These include Málaga, Seville, Córdoba and Granada. The view also reaches as far as Laguna de la Ratosa and Laguna de Fuente de Piedra.

The viewpoint thus connects the summit of the Sierra with a paved access route that can be used both by car and on foot. The visible surroundings include the four provinces mentioned as well as the two lagoons, Laguna de la Ratosa and Laguna de Fuente de Piedra. The stated elevation remains an approximate indication of the summit’s height at around 700 meters.

Stage 16 of the GR 249 runs from Cuevas Bajas to Alameda. It ends at the boundary between Mollina and Alameda.
