Torrepalma Between Trails, Equestrian Culture and History

The first section of the livestock trail Vereda del Término runs along the same route as the Torrepalma residential development in the municipality of Carmona, in the province of Seville. The Vereda del Término also runs in the immediate vicinity of Hacienda Torrepalma. In the area surrounding Torrepalma, the Alcores slopes are suitable for climbing and paragliding. A walking trail also runs through the area along the route of a disused railway line. One route described along the Vereda del Término is suitable for all target groups and covers ten kilometres there and back. For day planning, this there-and-back distance remains a clearly defined route length.

Hacienda Torrepalma has a large courtyard with a swimming pool and private parking. It comprises a former manor house and a 17th-century watchtower. The combination of historic buildings and the courtyard areas described provides the site with several specific points of interest. At the same time, Hacienda Torrepalma is presented as a venue for weddings. Mountain biking is listed as an activity for guests.

At Yeguada Torreluna, “Scientific Tour + Tradiciones Show” combines a guided tour of the stud farm with a live equestrian show. The guided visit “The Story of a Champion” explains how a champion horse is born, raised and trained. “Making of the Show” provides access to a real rehearsal inspired by Andalusian traditions. The equestrian show “Tradiciones” is a live performance inspired by Holy Week, the Feria, El Rocío and Carnival. The formats therefore range from an insight into the stud farm and a horse’s development to a rehearsal and a culturally themed performance. Visits to Yeguada Torreluna can be arranged by appointment.

Finca La Luz is an estate in a typically Andalusian architectural style, surrounded by a garden and an orchard with olive, orange and other fruit trees. In addition to the historical and equestrian themes, the destination is therefore characterised by a rural setting with various types of trees.

In nearby Carmona, the Roman necropolis is considered one of the largest and best-preserved Roman burial complexes on the Iberian Peninsula. The Roman amphitheatre is partly carved into the rock of the Alcor; gladiatorial games and other performances took place there. The name of the Condado de Torrepalma, created for the Verdugo family, refers to Hacienda Torrepalma in Carmona. A civic heraldic work from 1693 is associated with the name Torrepalma and the hacienda of the same name in Carmona. Carmona’s Three Kings procession was held for the first time in 1956. The area surrounding Torrepalma thus combines Roman remains, historical references to the name and living traditions with the trails and equestrian activities in the surrounding area.
