Culture and History

At Plaza del Ayuntamiento stands the clock tower of the former town hall of El Viso del Alcor. The Neo-Gothic tower dates from the mid-19th century and has a clock facing the square. Its classification connects the square with a historic town hall building and a clearly dated period of the town’s history.

The Monastery of the Discalced Mercedarians of Corpus Christi was built between 1604 and 1617. The Corpus Christi complex still includes the monastery’s cloister and staircase, as well as the church. The site is therefore defined not only by the monastery building, but also by the preserved, named components of the complex.

The parish church of Santa María del Alcor was built between 1470 and the beginning of the 16th century on the site of a former Franciscan hermitage. Its three naves are designed in the Hispano-Mudejar style. Its architectural history thus combines the site of a former hermitage, a long medieval construction period and a clearly named architectural form.

The Chapel of the Rosary is located in the former Casa de los Pájaros building, where grain was stored. The historic town centre contains manor houses from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
